A 1960 Reissue "Inspired by Gibson Custom": The Les Paul DNA with SlimTaper Comfort

The Les Paul Standard 1960 is one of the most sought-after instruments in electric guitar history: the same iconic silhouette as the great "Burst" years, but with a major evolution in feel. This Epiphone Les Paul Standard 1960 Reissue, developed in partnership with Gibson Custom, precisely embodies this philosophy: the vintage grain, the presence of a collectible Les Paul, and a thinner neck than some 50s profiles. The Tangerine Burst finish highlights the grain of the AAA flamed maple veneer, while period details (aged logo, "Les Paul Model" silk screen, side dots in the correct size and position) immediately reinforce the "reissue" character.

Who Is This Les Paul Standard 1960 Reissue For?

This guitar is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a Les Paul with very serious finish and equipment levels, without sacrificing true everyday playability. The 60s SlimTaper profile is especially appreciated if you like faster necks, alternate picking runs, precise bends, and smooth movement across the entire neck, while retaining the typical "set-neck" feel of Les Pauls.

In terms of styles, it covers the core Les Paul repertoire: blues (rich and expressive tone), classic rock (punch and sustain), hard rock (thick attack, forward mids), and even jazz or soul on the neck pickup with a slightly closed tone. Thanks to the quality electronics (CTS, Switchcraft, Paper-in-Oil), the guitar responds finely to volume and tone variations: ideal if you control your sound "by hand" rather than solely through pedals.

An Authentic Les Paul Tone: Mahogany, Carved Maple, and Alnico 3 Custombuckers

The tonal recipe is based on a mahogany body paired with a carved maple top. Mahogany provides a dense, warm, and singing foundation, with generous sustain and a very present low-midrange. Maple adds definition and a sharper attack, helping chords remain clear even with gain.

The glued-in neck with long tenon enhances stability and vibration transfer: you get a note "that holds," particularly pleasant on bends and sustained passages. The rosewood fingerboard, with a 12.0" / 304.8 mm radius, offers a good balance between chord comfort and lead playability, while the 22 medium jumbo frets favor attack and ease in vibrato.

The pair of Gibson Custombucker pickups (with Alnico 3 magnets) is central to the character: a full, woody, very expressive neck pickup, and a sharper but still "vintage" spirit bridge pickup, with a bright top end and present mids. The wiring sets a high standard: 2 volumes and 2 tones with CTS potentiometers, Bumblebee Paper-in-Oil capacitors, and a Switchcraft 3-position selector coupled with a Switchcraft 6.3 mm jack socket. The result: responsive dynamics, progressive brightness control, and a true sense of quality when playing with the settings rather than maxing everything out.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To get the most out of this Les Paul, you can use an electric string set with gauges .010 - .046 (matching the indicated gauges), as well as a 6.3 mm instrument jack cable for a reliable connection to your amp or pedalboard. A standard strap with strap locks is also suitable, as the guitar is equipped with 2 strap buttons (bottom and upper horn).
