A 1964 SG: The Golden Age of Style and Rock DNA
This Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson Custom" follows the lineage of mid-60s SG Standards, a pivotal era when the SG established itself with its sharp silhouette, pronounced bevels, and modern playability for the time. The Vintage Gloss finish, "openbook" headstock with Epiphone logo and Gibson crown in aged mother-of-pearl, along with nickel hardware, reinforce this positioning: a reissue designed to recapture the feel and character of a vintage instrument without compromising on equipment.
For Whom and Which Styles
Thanks to its fast neck and two vintage-voiced humbuckers, this SG is particularly suited for intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a true sonic personality, but it remains very accessible if you are starting out on electric guitar and want a serious, inspiring instrument. It excels in classic rock, blues, vintage hard rock, punchy pop, and all genres where a rich, responsive, and expressive sound is desired, with excellent playability across the entire neck.
The Sound
The combination of a mahogany body + mahogany neck provides a warm, dense, and singing foundation, with present mids and natural sustain. The Gibson Custombucker pickups deliver a very musical response: precise attack, tight lows, open highs, and above all a dynamic range that perfectly follows both pick and finger playing. The meticulous wiring (CTS potentiometers, Switchcraft selector and jack, Paper-in-Oil capacitors) allows for usable volume sweep and truly effective tones to shift from smooth crunch to more biting leads, without losing vintage character. The Maestro Vibrola is ideal for subtle, expressive variations while staying true to the 60s spirit.
