An "Unadorned" SG: The Spirit of a Classic, Epiphone's Accessible Approach
The SG has become an icon thanks to its sharp silhouette, comfort both standing and sitting, and its decidedly electric character. With the SG Tribute, Epiphone offers a straightforward and affordable version that gets straight to the point: SG aesthetics, mahogany craftsmanship, and powerful electronics. This "plug and play" philosophy makes it an excellent entry point into the SG world, while remaining serious enough to support long-term progress.
Who It's For and What It's For: Rock, Punk, Hard, and Anything That Demands Responsiveness
This left-handed electric guitar is aimed at motivated beginners as well as intermediate players looking for a simple, reliable, and immediately inspiring instrument. The ceramic humbucker duo is particularly at ease in rock, punk, hard rock, and classic metal: tight riffs, precise palm mutes, massive power chords, and biting solos. Thanks to the 60s SlimTaper neck profile (rounded C), it offers a fast feel under the hand, convenient for chord changes as well as faster runs.
Sound Character: Ceramic Humbuckers, Clear Attack, and Mahogany Sustain
The mahogany body provides a dense and warm sonic foundation, with a very present midrange that helps the guitar "speak" within a band. The thinner SG shape promotes a responsive feel and comfortable playability, while maintaining solid sustain thanks to the mahogany and fixed hardware combination.
On the electronics side, the Epiphone 650R (neck) and 700T (bridge) ceramic pickups deliver a firm and energetic signal: at the neck, you get a thick and singing tone for leads, with present but controlled lows; at the bridge, the attack is sharper, ideal for cutting rhythms and solos that gain precision under distortion. The 1 volume / 1 tone control layout encourages an instinctive approach: you dial in from a snappy crunch to a more restrained saturation, and easily roll off the highs for more vintage textures.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To complete your setup, you can add a standard strap (handy for rehearsals and stage), a 6.35 mm jack cable to connect to your amp, as well as a tuner (clip-on or pedal) and some plectrums suited to your picking style.
