An 8-port interface designed to replace (and surpass) traditional MIDI solutions
Designed to take over from more classic 4-in/4-out MIDI interfaces, the M4U eX focuses on a more modern approach: 8 reassignable ports that adapt to your real needs, rather than imposing fixed connectivity. You can switch from one scenario to another (up to 8 outputs, up to 8 inputs, or a mix of inputs/outputs) without manually reconfiguring your system: the device handles everything and confirms it visually via its LEDs.
Who is it for and what uses in studio or on stage?
The M4U eX is aimed at producers, keyboardists, composers, and technicians who want to control multiple synths, drum machines, expanders, or control surfaces with clean cabling and simple management. It is also perfectly suited for hybrid setups (hardware + software), where a stable, fast MIDI interface capable of evolving with the setup without multiplying boxes is desired.
Automatic routing, USB hub, and advanced functions for a centralized setup
The key feature: each MIDI port automatically becomes an input or output depending on what you connect. This "plug and play" logic simplifies instrument management, avoids patch errors, and speeds up startup, especially in multi-machine environments.
Built-in USB 3.0 hub: a true gravity center for your peripherals
In addition to the MIDI USB 3.0 interface, the M4U eX integrates a USB 3.0 hub with 3 connectors to plug in other USB equipment (USB master keyboard, software dongle, controller, etc.). The result: your interface can become the central hub of your production station, with fewer cables and better organization.
Merger / Splitter: more MIDI routing possibilities
Additional functions also allow the device to be used as a Merger or Splitter, handy for combining multiple MIDI streams or distributing a signal to several destinations according to your workflow.

Questions frequently asked
How many MIDI devices can be connected to this interface?
The 8 MIDI ports are automatically assignable as inputs or outputs depending on the connected equipment. The configuration can therefore be up to 8 inputs, 8 outputs, or a combination of both.
Does the ESI M4U EX work without drivers on Windows and Mac?
Class-compliant compatibility requires no driver on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Mac OS X, in 32 or 64 bits.
Can the MIDI ports be used to connect multiple synthesizers and drum machines?
Each port detects its role as input or output, with visual indication via LED. This management facilitates connection of synthesizers, drum machines, expanders, and control surfaces. The routing avoids manual reconfiguration when changing setups.
What devices can the built-in USB hub accommodate?
The USB 3.0 hub has 3 connectors for devices such as a USB master keyboard, a controller, or a software dongle. It allows centralizing these connections around the interface.
Can the M4U EX serve as a MIDI merger or splitter?
Merger and Splitter functions allow combining multiple MIDI streams or distributing a signal to multiple destinations.
