What EQ45 Is For

EQ45 is an equalization plug-in designed to shape tone and balance a mix with a musical and efficient approach. It is used both in mixing and production to clean resonances, restore presence to a vocal, clarify a guitar, thicken a drum bus, or refine the frequency balance of a virtual instrument. Its character, inspired by a prized analog equalizer, allows going beyond simple "surgical EQ" and delivering a pleasant sonic signature, while maintaining great control over the settings.

Main Features

Urei 545 Modeling: Musicality and Color

Based on a circuit model of the Urei 545, EQ45 captures the spirit of a "go-to" equalizer used for years by sound engineers for its tonality and ability to shape a source without harshness. The result: boosts and cuts that remain natural, even when pushed, with a sense of depth and coherence typical of analog approaches.

4 Parametric Bands: Gain and Bandwidth Control

With its four parametric bands, EQ45 lets you work across the entire useful spectrum: correcting intrusive low-mids, adding presence in the mids, opening up the highs, or recentralizing the lows. Each band features Gain and Width (bandwidth) controls, facilitating both broad, musical adjustments and targeted interventions on problematic frequencies.

Butterworth 24 dB per Octave Low Cut and High Cut

The Low Cut and High Cut sections with Butterworth 24 dB per octave filters are ideal for quickly "cleaning" a track: removing unnecessary vibrations and rumble, controlling sibilance and harshness in the extremes, or reserving space in the mix. This type of filter, known for its smooth response, helps achieve a clean and predictable result, especially useful on vocal takes, overheads, saturated guitars, or synths rich in harmonics.

EQ In/Out Bypass and Use of Filters Alone

An EQ In/Out button allows activating or deactivating the equalization section. When disabled, you can use only the low-cut and high-cut filters, convenient for a quick cleaning step without affecting the tonal balance of the parametric bands.

Overload Protection to Preserve Headroom

EQ45 includes an overload protection that reacts when the signal transient exceeds -0.1 dB. This is an asset for working confidently during EQ boosts, avoiding surprises on percussive sources, and maintaining a stable audio chain, especially upstream of a limiter or on a sensitive bus.

Instrument-Oriented Presets: A Quick Starting Point

To speed up mixing, EQ45 offers instrument-specific presets. They provide an effective base to "carve" a track (vocals, drums, guitar, etc.) and then fine-tune by ear according to the arrangement, recording, and aesthetic of the piece.
