What EQ65 Is For

EQ65 is a filter plugin intended for mixing and audio restoration, designed to eliminate problematic frequencies with extreme precision. Whereas a parametric equalizer often serves to shape an overall tone, EQ65 focuses on "magnified" treatment: resonances on a vocal, whistles and harsh harmonics, hums, frequencies that mask intelligibility, or even ring on a snare drum. Its approach using Band Pass (to isolate and listen to the area) then Notch (to cut it) makes it a formidable tool to achieve a cleaner, clearer, and more controlled mix without unnecessarily altering the rest of the signal.

A Recreation of a Studio Filtering Classic

Inspired by the famous Urei 565 filter set, EQ65 captures the spirit of tools used for decades in studios to quickly correct targeted defects. The goal is clear: to help you de-emphasize or even eliminate selected frequencies in a recording, with a direct and musical manipulation logic.

Two Notch/Band Pass Modules for Ultra-Targeted Correction

The core of EQ65 is based on two switchable Notch/Band Pass filters. In practice, you can first switch to Band Pass to "scan" an area and precisely identify the offending frequency (resonance, feedback, metallic tone, whistle). Once the frequency is located, a simple toggle to Notch allows you to reduce it with very narrow Q settings, ideal for correcting without removing energy where it's not needed.

Attenuation Control with Depth Controls

To adapt the correction to the context (recording, arrangement, mix density), the Depth controls allow you to adjust the attenuation of the targeted frequency. By combining the notch filters and these depth controls, you get gradual reductions: from subtle attenuation to more pronounced suppression, all while maintaining control over the transparency of the result.

High Pass and Low Pass 36 dB/octave: Quick Cleanup, Clean Result

Complementing the surgical work, EQ65 includes High Pass and Low Pass filters that are particularly effective thanks to a 36 dB/octave slope. This steepness facilitates cleaning the low end (rumble, vibrations, plosives) or limiting the high end (hiss, harshness, artifacts), with a clear and precise action, very useful on vocals, guitars, overheads, synths, and effects buses.

Immediate Control and Ready-to-Use Presets

The plugin features an In/Out switch with indicator to instantly compare before/after and confirm that the correction serves the mix well. Several presets oriented towards instruments and special effects are also included, handy for quick starts, testing approaches, or recalling typical settings in a modern production workflow.
