Essential Information About the Instant Flanger Mk II Software
- Authentic Vintage Flanger: faithful reproduction of the 1975 rack studio processor, to bring the character of "tape flanging" into your DAW.
- From Subtlety to Extreme: ideal for stereo widening, light modulations, double tracking, and very pronounced comb sweeps.
- Musical and Lively Modulations: LFO, Envelope Follower, manual comb control, and the Bounce mode that recreates the irregular behavior of a capstan motor.
- Modern Workflow: oscillator sync and retrigger, sidechain to drive the envelope from another track, and Remote control for tactile manipulation.

What Instant Flanger Mk II Is For
Instant Flanger Mk II is a studio flanger plug-in designed to add movement, width, and analog texture to a modern mix. It excels on guitars (rhythm or lead), synths, pads, electric pianos, as well as vocals to create subtle doubling, stereo thickening, or a very pronounced swirling effect. In mixing, it can serve as a discreet sweetening tool, while in sound design it becomes a machine for generating spectacular comb sweeps, rhythmic movements, and expressive transitions.
Main Features
A "Tape" Character Flanger with Precise Control
At the core of the plug-in, the flanging effect relies on a modulated time delay that creates the famous comb filtering. The Depth control manages the intensity and color of the blend: at 100%, the delayed signal is added to the direct signal, and at -100% the plug-in subtracts the direct signal from the delayed signal, opening the door to more radical phase variations.
Three Instantaneous Sound Signatures
The Mode selector offers three flavors of flanging: Shallow, Deep, and Wide. This allows quick switching from a fine and elegant modulation to a deeper effect, then to an enhanced sense of space and breadth, without losing the musicality of the original.
Multiple Modulation Engines: LFO, Envelope, and Manual Control
To tailor the effect to each track, Instant Flanger Mk II combines several approaches. The Oscillator drives modulation at the speed of your choice, while the Envelope Follower makes the sweep react to the signal's amplitude, perfect for movements that "breathe" with the performance. The Manual control lets you sculpt the comb by turning the Big Knob, very useful for precisely placing a notch/peak in the spectrum or automating cinematic sweeps.
Expression and Inter-Track Interaction
The Remote mode allows assigning flanging control to a modulation wheel (mod wheel) to play the effect like an instrument, in real time. For creative mix interactions, the Side Chain function enables triggering the Envelope Follower from any project source (kick, vocal, hi-hat, etc.), to create organic and rhythmic "inter-track" modulations.
The Detail That Makes All the Difference: Bounce, Sync, Retrig, and Low Cut
Bounce reproduces a typical tape machine behavior when the capstan motor "searches" for its speed after release, adding expressive irregularity and a lively character difficult to achieve with a standard flanger. For a modern workflow, you have Sync and Retrig to fully control the oscillator and obtain tempo-locked or coherently retriggered modulations. Finally, the Low Cut control helps tame the effect by removing bass frequencies from the flanged signal, preserving the low-end foundation and clarity.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Eventide Instant Flanger MKII compatible with Mac and Windows?
Compatibility covers macOS 10.14 or later on both Intel and Apple Silicon processors, as well as Windows 8 or later. The software is available as a download.
How to sync the flanger to the project tempo?
The Sync and Retrig functions provide advanced oscillator control. This allows modulation to be locked to the tempo or retriggered coherently.
Can a sidechain be used with this flanger?
The Envelope Follower can be triggered by an external mix source using the Side Chain function. A kick, vocal, or hi-hat can thus drive the flanging movement.
What are the Shallow, Deep, and Wide modes?
The Mode selector offers three signatures: Shallow, Deep, and Wide. These modes let users choose modulation that is finer, more pronounced, or broader.
How to prevent the flanger from overloading the bass frequencies?
The Low Cut control reduces the low frequencies of the flanged signal to preserve the foundation of the lower spectrum.
