What Octavox Is For

Octavox is a diatonic harmonization and pitch shifting plugin designed to enrich an audio source with additional voices perfectly coherent with a key and scale. It is suited for both studio production and live use, to create credible choirs, thicken a lead, widen a guitar, transform a mono synth into a complex harmonic architecture, or build melodic rhythmic patterns using synchronizable delays. Its "time-based" approach encourages experimentation: you start with a simple idea and Octavox propels it into animated harmonies, call-and-response phrases, or evolving electronic-style textures.

Main Features

8-voice diatonic harmonizer inspired by a high-end hardware processor

Based on technology from a famous hardware effects processor, Octavox applies diatonic pitch shifting across eight independent voices. The advantage of diatonic is staying "in scale": you can stack intervals (thirds, fifths, sixths, etc.) without hitting out-of-context notes, ideal for clean harmonies on vocals, guitar, monophonic synths, and melodic lines. Each voice has its own behavior, allowing you to create a tight choir, a wide "stacked takes" ensemble, or a very defined structure for modern arrangements.

Per-voice control: level, pan, delay, feedback, detune, and intervals

Octavox is designed for speed without sacrificing precision. You adjust parameters manually or by entering values directly, then refine each voice: stereo placement (pan), volume, timing via delay, repetitions via feedback, and character via detune. The result: you move from a static harmony to a true "arrangement instrument," capable of creating melodic echoes and moving layers, with a more organic sound when subtly varying voices.

Rhythmic sequences and melodic delays synchronized to tempo

Beyond harmonization, Octavox excels in rhythmic design. Per-voice delays combined with different intervals transform a sustained note into a harmonic cascade or a short line into an inspiring sequence. DAW tempo synchronization facilitates creating grid-locked patterns (off-beats, polyrhythms, stereo responses), especially effective in electronic music, modern pop, and sound design.

"Pitch-tracking off" mode: a broader approach even on complex sources

Octavox offers a disable-able pitch tracking mode ("pitch-tracking off") that allows it to shine on polyphonic or rhythmic sources. This opens more experimental uses: processing loops, percussion, textures, or buses to achieve harmonic doubling, widening, and movement effects less dependent on traditional note detection.

Randomize: micro-variations for a more natural sound

The Randomize function applies micro pitch shifts to simulate a more lively behavior of a real ensemble. On choirs or guitar stacks, it helps avoid the "perfect copy" feel and adds slight musical instability, also useful to thicken a synth without layering multiple tracks.

Musical interface: notation grid, Key/Scale, and smart locks

Pitch programming relies on a Notation Grid displaying pitches on a staff, with a quantized grid to place notes in time intuitively. Visual cues (color and brightness) indicate pan and level of each voice, speeding up reading and balancing. To maintain a smooth workflow, MixLock keeps the wet/dry mix constant when changing presets or snapshots, and Key Lock preserves the key and scale to compare ideas without full reconfiguration.

Advanced MIDI control: moving harmonies, studio and live

Octavox integrates extensive MIDI compatibility to make harmonization playable. Each voice's intervals can be set via MIDI notes, the amount of shift modulated via MIDI Pitch Bend, and the Randomize function triggered/controlled via the modulation wheel. In practice, you can evolve harmonies on the fly during a take or performance to create progressions, instant responses, or transitions without interrupting the energy of playing.

70+ presets to start fast and stay creative

With over 70 presets, Octavox is designed to deliver immediate results: choirs, stacks, widenings, sequences, and rhythmic effects. It's an excellent starting point to discover interval and timing combinations you might not have thought of, then refine each voice to fit perfectly in a mix.
