Summary of This Method

Designed to support the saxophonist in their discovery of jazz, this method gathers over sixty original studies covering a variety of styles and musical situations. The first part lays the essential foundations of the jazz rhythmic language: it guides the student step-by-step in understanding and performing swing eighth notes, syncopation, and displaced accents, in order to achieve a more natural phrasing and a steadier groove.

The second part offers twenty carefully graded melodic studies. The goal is to build a reading and interpretation technique adapted to jazz: articulation, breathing, line continuity, sense of phrasing, and timing. Thanks to progressive difficulty, the student can advance methodically, consolidate their skills, and gain ease with melodic turns typical of jazz.

Finally, the third part, "Improvisation and Blues," opens the door to personal expression. It encourages the musician to reuse the studies as starting material to develop their own variations, explore the blues, enrich their vocabulary, and embark on freer improvisation. Ideal to complement a jazz saxophone course, this method also serves as an excellent tool for independent practice, to develop the ear, sense of rhythm, and creativity.
