The Early 60s Bass VI in the Vintera III Spirit

This Vintera III Early '60s Bass VI is aimed at those seeking the look, feel, and sonic DNA of the original early 60s Bass VI models, while benefiting from consistent modern manufacturing. Within the Vintera III range, it serves as an ideal bridge between Fender's vintage aesthetic and reliable everyday playability, featuring period-correct details (7.25" radius, "Clay Dot" inlays, switch-based electronics) that make all the difference to the touch.

Who Is It For and What Styles?

The Bass VI is a unique instrument: tuned from E to E, one octave below the guitar, it suits guitarists wanting to expand their range as well as bassists seeking chords, arpeggios, and more "guitar-like" melodic lines. Its 30" / 762 mm scale and vintage "C" neck make it very accessible from an intermediate level, while remaining a texture powerhouse for advanced players. It shines in surf, 60s pop, indie, ambient, shoegaze, post-punk, and soundtrack music, whenever depth, attack, and nuance need to alternate.

Tone

With its trio of Vintage-Style Early '60s Bass VI single-coil pickups, this Fender delivers a full and clear low end, woody mids, and a bright clarity that maintains definition even on chords. The 3 on/off switches (one per pickup) allow for very precise combinations, from warm and enveloping sounds to sharper attacks. The bass cut switch (strangle) tightens the low spectrum to highlight picking, rhythmic parts, and lines that need to cut through the mix. The alder/maple duo provides attack and good sustain, while the rosewood fingerboard softens just enough to preserve a vintage tone. Finally, the floating vibrato opens the door to expressive inflections, and the Bass VI mute adds a very sixties character, perfect for percussive and muted parts.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original setup, prioritize a set of Fender USA Bass VI Nickel Plated Steel .024-.100 strings (PN 0730250413). A standard strap and clip-on tuner will work without installation constraints, and a good quality 6.35 mm jack cable will secure your signal. With the Deluxe gig bag included, you're ready for rehearsals and gigs.
