The Legendary Jazz Bass, Reinvented for the Modern Era
With the American Ultra II, Fender elevates the Jazz Bass to the top of its USA line. It retains the iconic character of the J-Bass-familiar ergonomics, perfect balance-enhanced with subtle yet decisive improvements for stage and studio: optimized hardware, sculpted neck heel, and highly refined electronics. The "Sinister Red" finish adds a contemporary touch to this timeless bass.
Who Is It For and What Styles?
Ideal for intermediate to expert bassists demanding precision, noiseless operation, and flexibility. From punchy funk to smooth jazz, through modern pop and rock, the active/passive palette covers both traditional and current repertoires, playable fingerstyle, with a pick, or slap.
The Sound
The selected alder body delivers tight lows and singing mids, while the maple neck and fingerboard provide attack and definition. The Ultra II Noiseless pickups preserve the vintage J-Bass spirit while eliminating hum. In passive mode, you get organic and dynamic tones; in active mode, the preamp extends the range with precise control over bass, mids (325/750 Hz selector), and treble. The HiMass bridge increases sustain and tuning stability, resulting in a responsive bass that cuts through the mix without harshness.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
Long scale 34" string set (gauges .045-.105) compatible, identical to the original setup. Molded hard case included. Add a standard 2-point strap (classic strap buttons) to secure your performances.
