American Ultra II: Fender USA DNA Designed for Modern Performance

This American Ultra II Jazz Bass V embodies Fender's vision of a "no-compromise" 5-string bass: the iconic Jazz Bass look, optimized for today's demands (comfort, stability, noiseless operation, and versatility). Its Ultraburst finish highlights the curves and bevels, while the hardware and luthiery choices clearly target professional use: precise intonation, solid sustain, and fast playing feel, without straying from Fender's sonic identity.

A 5-String Jazz Bass Built for Stage, Studio, and Demanding Musicians

With its long 34" (863.6 mm) scale length and 5-string setup, this bass is primarily aimed at intermediate to expert bassists seeking a clean, tight, and mix-friendly low B string. It excels in funk (sharp attacks and dynamics), jazz fusion (definition and precision), pop/rock (solid foundation, controlled lows), and gospel/R&B (very effective active tonal palette). The instant active/passive switch via the S-1 is a real plus: you can adjust your output level and tone in a second without changing your playing approach.

Sound: Jazz Bass Character, Noise-Free, with Powerful Active EQ

The select alder body delivers the typical Fender balance: present yet clear lows, natural mids, and musical highs. Paired with the ebony fingerboard, the response gains precision and articulation, especially appreciated on a 5-string when you want the low B string to remain defined even with strong attacks.
The two Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Jazz Bass pickups maintain the "single-coil" spirit (attack, clarity, character) while greatly reducing unwanted noise. The result: a cleaner sound for challenging stages, harsh lighting, and studio setups where silence is crucial. The pan control (balance potentiometer) allows fine blending of neck and bridge pickups, from warm and rounded to tight and biting.
The Ultra II active preamp clearly expands the tonal range: you can boost the low end for foundation, open up the highs for slap, or scoop/boost mids depending on your place in the mix. The mid-frequency selector (325 Hz / 750 Hz) is particularly musical: 325 Hz helps thicken and "fill" without muddiness, while 750 Hz emphasizes attack, presence, and a more singing quality, ideal for pick playing or lines that need to cut through.
In terms of feel, the compound radius 10" to 14" (254 to 355.6 mm) is designed to do it all: comfortable chords and groove near the nut, faster bending and playing higher up with less fret buzz. Add to that the "Modern D" profile, "Ultra" rounded edges, and sculpted heel: the bass disappears in your hands, exactly what you expect from an instrument in this category.
