The Essentials to Know About the Fender Standard Jazz Bass, Maple Fingerboard, Black Pickguard, Black

  • The Jazz Bass Sound: two Fender Standard single-coil pickups with ceramic magnets for a range from warm to snappy tones, with great definition.

  • Immediate Comfort: maple neck with a Modern "C" profile and satin finish, designed for speed and smooth playability.

  • Timeless Fender Look: glossy black finish, 3-ply black pickguard, and chrome hardware for a sleek and effective style.

  • Ready to Play: long 34" / 864 mm scale length and nickel-plated steel strings .045-.105 for a modern sound and good note sustain.

A Jazz Bass Born to Expand the Fender Sound Spectrum

Released by Fender in 1960 as a complement to the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass established itself as a more versatile and brighter alternative thanks to its two-pickup configuration. Its asymmetrical body improves ergonomics, while its slim neck profile promotes agility and speed-qualities that quickly won over players well beyond the jazz genre.

For Whom and Which Styles?

The Fender Standard Jazz Bass is designed to support bassists at the start of their musical journey, while providing a solid foundation for progress. It is perfectly suited for rock, pop, funk, indie, and more modern styles where attack, precision, and strong presence in the mix are sought. The two independent volume controls also allow easy fine-tuning of the balance between warmth and bite.

The Sound

This Jazz Bass relies on a typical SS configuration, with two single-coil pickups: the neck pickup delivers a rounder, fuller low end, while the bridge pickup adds brightness, grain, and a more "edgy" attack. The ceramic magnets and high output level promote a clear and precise response, ideal for articulated lines and playing with both pick and fingers. The maple fingerboard enhances clarity and definition, and the long 34" / 864 mm scale length contributes to good string tension and solid sustain.
