An Iconic "Custom" from the CBS Era
The Telecaster Custom was one of the first Fenders to adopt a humbucking pickup. Three-position switch on the upper bout, four potentiometers mounted on an elongated pickguard: the American Vintage II 1977 Telecaster Custom reproduces these aesthetic and functional codes to recapture the feel, playability, and look of the original from the late 1970s.
For Which Musicians and Styles?
Designed for intermediate to expert guitarists, it is also suitable for motivated beginners seeking a versatile Tele. Its voice easily covers classic rock, funk, country, indie, pop, and blues. The vintage 7.25" radius offers natural comfort when fretting, while the vintage tall frets facilitate bends and vibrato control.
Sound
The Wide Range CuNiFe humbucker at the neck delivers a broad, airy, and articulate range, with deep lows and silky highs typical of this magnet recipe. The '77 single-coil at the bridge provides the attack, twang, and presence that define the Tele signature. The middle position balances brightness and warmth for dynamic rhythms. The alder body ensures a balanced midrange response, the maple neck adds precision, and the 6-saddle bridge optimizes sustain and tuning stability. Vintage electronics (3-position selector and independent volume/tone controls) allow fine adjustments both live and in the studio.
