An "Artist" Reed Designed with a Musician: the Fiberreed RPL
The RPL model is the first in the Fiberreed Artist series. It was developed with Portuguese music professor Rodrigo Pires de Lima, with a clear goal: to offer a tenor saxophone reed that meets the demands of classical practice. The development work is based on numerous factory adjustments, refining the cut through successive stages to achieve stable behavior and controllable sound output.
For Which Tenor Saxophonist?
This reed is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced saxophonists (and demanding musicians) seeking reliable response and clear articulation, especially in a classical context: repertoire, conservatory, ensembles, chamber music, or tone work. Its strength 2.5 makes it a balanced choice to maintain flexibility while keeping firmness, depending on your mouthpiece and playing style.
Sound and Design
The Fiberreed RPL features a traditional curved cut with a pronounced heart. Practically, this promotes good resistance under air pressure, note stability, and a sense of precision in attack. The timbre aims for purity and clarity, with defined articulation, useful for fast passages, dynamics, and intonation work. Thanks to its construction alternating layers of carbon fibers and hollow fibers, it does not react like a cane reed to humidity: it does not absorb water and does not dry out, contributing to a more consistent feel throughout playing sessions.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain your reed's performance and hygiene, a reed storage case (tenor sax size) and cleaning products suitable for regular maintenance can be good complements. If you use a specific mouthpiece and ligature, just ensure that the clamping pressure remains consistent to fully enjoy the reed's response and articulation.
