A "10th Anniv" Series That Pushes Flight's Standards

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Flight designed a collection of four tenor ukuleles crafted as showcase instruments. While the brand is known for accessible and well-thought-out models, this anniversary series clearly targets the high-end segment: selection of solid woods, premium details, and a manufacturing approach emphasizing precision, playability, and acoustic richness. The A10 QM Aqua Blue immediately stands out with its blue hue and spectacular quilted maple, while remaining an instrument made for long playing, not just admiration.

For Which Musician and Styles?

With its tenor format (19 frets, 14 frets clear of the body), the Flight A10 QM is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced players seeking more body, better note definition, and a more "main instrument" feel than an entry-level ukulele. The maple neck and ebony fingerboard offer a fast touch, ideal for playing enriched chords, clean shifts, and melodic lines.

In terms of styles, it excels in accompaniment (pop, folk, variety), but also in solo playing thanks to its clarity: fingerstyle, arrangements, soft jazz, bossa, or any situation where articulation and note-to-note balance are essential. The tenor scale length also provides a pleasant tension for those who like a crisp attack, including in low G tunings (depending on the chosen string set).

Sound Character: Precision, Projection, and Controlled Brightness

The sound signature of this model is strongly linked to its wood choice: a solid quilted maple top combined with solid quilted maple back and sides. Maple is known for its quick attack, very clear response, and bright treble register, with tighter and more defined lows. On a tenor, this translates into direct projection, excellent note separation, and a nice sense of "clarity" in chords.

The presence of an ebony bridge further enhances this precision: ebony adds density, which promotes clean energy transfer and more stable note sustain. The bone nut (headstock and bridge) contributes to a clear attack and reliable intonation, while the compensated nut helps keep chords in tune even higher up the neck.

The pin bridge system (bridge with pins) improves string stability at the bridge and contributes to an immediate response feel. Finally, the provided fluorocarbon strings (Brazilian type) enhance articulation, brightness, and precision, with a touch often appreciated for dynamic playing and fine nuances. The result: a ukulele that cuts well through an acoustic mix while remaining musical and elegant.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To fully enjoy this tenor on a daily basis, a clip-on tuner remains the simplest and most universal accessory. You can also consider a microfiber cloth to preserve the finish and decorative elements, as well as a humidifier suitable for solid wood instruments if you play in a dry environment. For replacement, choose a tenor ukulele string set (fluorocarbon or nylon, depending on the desired sound) to maintain the correct length and appropriate tension.
