A New Hybrid Approach Between Plugin and Tube Processing

FT1-EMU is designed as a hybrid platform to recreate the behavior of a real analog circuit within the comfort of a plugin. Rather than aiming for a simple "analog color," the goal is to reproduce the dynamics and harmonic response of the FreqTube FT1 using SPICE component-level modeling. The result: a tube saturation tool usable daily, with the speed of digital, while retaining the possibility to switch to real analog processing when the FT1 hardware is available.

Who It's For and Studio Use Cases

This plugin targets producers, mixers, and sound designers who want to add grit, density, and cohesion without breaking their workflow. On vocals, it helps push presence and energy; on bass or synths, it enriches the spectrum and stabilizes level perception; on drum buses or subgroup masters, it adds glue and body. Thanks to the Dry/Wet parameter, FT1-EMU is also well-suited for parallel processing to preserve transients while thickening the body.

Creative Features, Controlled Saturation, and Hardware-Inspired Filtering

Tube Engine and Harmonic Sculpting

The "Tube Engine" combines two signatures: E83CC for more upfront saturation and a push sensation, and 12AT7 for a smoother warmth rich in musical harmonics. The Drive and Overdrive controls manage the circuit excitation level, while Harmonics (Even/Odd) helps choose between a more "musical" roundness and a more pronounced aggressiveness. The Clipping and Phase parameters complete the sound design, ranging from subtle to radical.

Dual Multi-Mode Filtering to Shape the Mix

FT1-EMU includes a main filter and a parallel filter, with a topology inspired by the hardware. You select the filter type (HPF, LPF, Peak, Bandpass) and slope (12 dB or 24 dB) to control saturation by band, clean the lows before pushing the drive, or create a more aggressive parallel path without overwhelming the rest of the spectrum.

Constant Level and Transparent Hardware Integration

For more reliable gain staging, an automatic harmonic gain compensation maintains a consistent output level as you increase saturation. And when the FreqTube FT1 is connected, the plugin switches to hardware mode without changing instance or session: same interface, same settings, same recall within the project.
