An Accessory Derived from Luthiery Practices to Control Resonances
On bowed instruments, certain notes can generate pronounced resonance. "Wolf stopper" type devices follow a traditional optimization approach by adding a small mass to modify the instrument's vibrational response.
Who Should Use It and When?
The Tonwolf is intended for violinists and violists of all levels when a note seems to "catch" or become unstable. It is suitable both for conservatory practice and orchestral settings, where consistent sound production is essential.
Sound Quality
By acting on certain vibrations, this accessory can help reduce an overly prominent resonance and make the response more even across registers. The result depends on the instrument, setup, and adjustment.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Gewa violin/alto mute compatible with a viola?
This reference is indicated for violins and violas.
Violin wolf eliminator: which resonances can it reduce?
The device acts on certain vibrations of the instrument. It can reduce an excessive resonance and even out the response across registers. The effect achieved depends on the instrument, setup, and adjustment.
What material is this wolf eliminator made of?
Its body is made of metal and has a black synthetic coating.
When should a Tonwolf be used on a violin?
When a note sticks or becomes unstable, adding this small mass can alter the violin's vibrational response.
Is this accessory suitable for orchestra work?
Designed for violinists and violists of all levels, it is suitable for conservatory practice as well as orchestra settings where consistent sound emission is desired.
