Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
Gibraltar is a key reference in drum hardware and accessories. These protector rings follow a simple and effective logic: to reinforce a drilled drumhead while maintaining a clean look and providing a practical solution for both stage and studio.
Who This Drum/Instrument Is For
This kit is intended for any drummer, from beginner to expert, who uses a ported bass drum for live performance, recording, or rehearsals. Ideal for rock, metal, funk, pop, or gospel whenever microphone capture and control of bass drum sound become priorities.
Features and Innovations
The two-piece rings clip on either side of the drumhead to reinforce the cut area and stabilize the port's perimeter. The optional cutter allows for quick, precise cutting of a clean hole in either 4-inch or 6-inch size, without guesswork.
Sound
The bass drum port promotes a clearer attack and more direct response, while making internal mic placement easier. Gibraltar rings do not alter the drumhead: they secure the cut and contribute to a clean port, ensuring consistency in sound capture.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Gibraltar SC-GPHP-6C ring designed for a 6-inch port?
The SC-GPHP-6C refers to a 6-inch port protector with a chrome finish.
How is a protective ring mounted on a bass drumhead with a hole?
The two-piece construction clips onto each side of the drumhead. This mounting reinforces the circumference of the cut hole and maintains its shape.
Can this ring be used to facilitate bass drum mic placement?
A 6-inch port facilitates internal microphone placement inside the bass drum. The protected cutout promotes a cleaner attack and a more direct response.
What finish is offered for this Gibraltar port protector?
This version is offered in chrome. The range is also available in white and black.
Is a special cutter required to cut the drumhead to the correct size?
An optional cutter allows a clean cut at the 4 or 6-inch size. The 6-inch ring then stabilizes the edge of the port.
