A Humbucker Born at the Custom Shop to Recapture the Magic of the 1950s

Developed within the Gibson Custom Shop for the "Historic Reissue" series, the Custombucker aims for a faithful reproduction of the character of the very first humbuckers from the late 1950s. Materials, processes, and design choices have been refined to regain the attack, transparency, and harmonic complexity associated with the famous vintage "Patent Applied For," with that lively pickup feel that responds to every playing intention.

For Which Guitarists and Guitars

This humbucker pickup is intended for musicians seeking a high-end vintage sound : blues, classic rock, jazz, roots, but also for luthiers and enthusiasts who want to enhance a Les Paul, a SG, or an ES. Whether in the studio or on stage, it stands out with a natural touch response, clear chord definition, and singing sustain, regardless of the selected position.

Design: Dynamics, Breathability, and Musicality Above All

The Custombucker features two "deliberately unbalanced" coils wound with 42 AWG wire, a choice that promotes a more open spectrum, expressive mids, and very musical articulation. The absence of waxing preserves the pickup's breathability and enhances sensitivity to nuances, allowing a transition from elegant clean to rich crunch simply by adjusting the guitar's volume and pick attack. The 2-conductor wiring stays traditional, while the True Historic Nickel cover completes the vintage aesthetic and contributes to the soft, balanced character expected from a PAF-style humbucker.
