A Gibson icon born to accompany great songs
Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird was the brand's first square shoulder acoustic guitar. With its instantly recognizable silhouette, pickguard adorned with the famous hummingbird and generous tonal character, it has established itself as a benchmark among generations of artists.
This Hummingbird Standard builds on the model's historic foundations in a version designed to meet today's demands. Made in Bozeman, Montana, it combines traditional craftsmanship, a gloss nitrocellulose finishing and modern amplification to preserve the Hummingbird's identity on stage and in the studio.
An expressive electro-acoustic guitar for singers, songwriters and accompanists
The Hummingbird Standard is particularly suited to intermediate, advanced and professional guitarists looking for a high-end acoustic guitar capable of delivering a rhythm part with presence. Its body shape offers a full, balanced response, making it especially well suited to supporting a voice or filling out the sound within a group.
It is particularly at home in folk, rock, pop, country, acoustic blues and chanson. Its direct attack brings out the best in pick-played chords, while its harmonic richness also allows for nuanced arpeggios and expressive melodic parts. As it does not feature a cutaway, the instrument prioritizes the authenticity of the traditional Hummingbird body shape and the power of its body.
The warmth of mahogany and the clarity of Sitka spruce
The solid Sitka spruce top provides definition, responsiveness and dynamic headroom. It responds precisely to changes in attack: soft and detailed in fingerpicking, it gains authority as the playing becomes more energetic. The sculpted X-bracing contributes to this flexible response while promoting projection and sustain.
The solid mahogany back and sides enrich the midrange, with a rounded warmth and excellent density in chords. Combined with Sitka spruce, this gives the Hummingbird its distinctive personality: present lows without excess, singing mids and sufficiently precise highs that allow every note to breathe.
When amplified, the Baggs HiFi DNA system reproduces the instrument's natural acoustic character through two lightweight sensors positioned on the bridge plate. Each sensor has its own optimized preamp, delivering a full, realistic and detailed sound. The volume and tone controls installed in the soundhole make it easy to adapt the sound to the stage without altering the guitar's aesthetics.
