A 1934 Icon, Revived by the Custom Shop

Launched in 1934, the "Jumbo" introduced a larger format at Gibson, designed to carry guitarists' voices on stage. Produced for a short period, it has become a grail for artists and collectors. This 1934 Jumbo from the Gibson Custom Shop captures the spirit, dimensions, and techniques of the era to reclaim the dynamics, tone, and flair of the original historic models.

For Whom and Which Styles?

Designed for intermediate to expert musicians and lovers of characterful instruments, the 1934 Jumbo excels in energetic strumming, vocal accompaniment, folk, country, americana, and blues. Its V-shaped neck will delight vintage purists as well as singer-songwriters seeking a broad and expressive acoustic voice.

The Sound

The thermally aged red spruce top delivers a lively attack, plenty of headroom, and a spectrum rich in harmonics. The mahogany back and sides provide singing mids and precise bass, ideal for cutting through the mix without harshness. The hot-glued bracing optimizes vibrational coherence and projection, while the 25" / 635 mm scale length offers balanced tension, a pleasant snap with the pick, and natural sustain. The result: a broad, focused voice with authentic Gibson character.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

- Phosphor bronze acoustic strings 12-53 gauge (recommended gauge for folk/Jumbo) to preserve tension/resonance balance.
- Body or soundhole humidifier and hygrometer to maintain stable humidity, essential for a solid wood acoustic guitar.
- Leather strap with lace (acoustic-compatible) for secure attachment even without a strap button on the heel.
