Essential Information About the Gibson LG-2 50s Original "Antique Natural" Guitar
- 1950s small-body format: ultra comfortable to hold, ideal both in the studio and on stage, with surprisingly ample projection.
- Solid Sitka spruce top / solid mahogany back and sides, carved X bracing: warmth, precision, and balance across the entire spectrum.
- Discreet L.R. Baggs VTC electronics with volume/tone controls mounted by ear, ready to plug in without altering the acoustic tone.
- Short 24.75" / 628.65 mm scale length: gentle tension, increased playing comfort, and easier bends; hard case included.
An Heir to the "Banner" Lineage
Born in 1942 following the L-00, the LG-2 established itself as the small-body alternative to the legendary J-45 and Southern Jumbo. The 50s Original version revives this "workhorse" spirit with specifications inspired by the fifties and an "Antique Natural" finish that highlights its multiple binding and teardrop-shaped tortoiseshell pickguard. The result: an acoustic guitar with an authentic vintage look and modern reliability.
Who Is It For and What For?
Designed for singer-songwriters, fingerstyle, blues/folk, country, and contemporary pop, the LG-2 shines with its responsiveness and clarity. Its compact size suits players seeking an easy-to-play guitar or those of smaller stature, while meeting the expectations of intermediate to expert guitarists for recording and live performance.
The Sound
The solid Sitka spruce delivers attack and dynamics, while the solid mahogany provides woody mids and singing warmth. The carved X bracing offers liveliness and surprising projection for a small body, with silky sustain and a balanced response in both strumming and picking. The short scale softens the attack and enhances finger flexibility, while the compact body controls the bass for a focused sound that fits perfectly in a mix. Plugged in, the L.R. Baggs VTC faithfully reproduces the natural tone, with discreet controls easily accessible by ear.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To preserve and optimize the instrument: a set of phosphor bronze folk strings in Light 12-53 gauge (or Custom Light 11-52 depending on your touch), a capo for 6-string folk guitar, and a case humidifier to stabilize humidity. Gibson hard case included.
