The Super Jumbo That Made History
Born in 1937 and switched to maple in 1947, the SJ-200 established itself as the "Queen of Flat-Top Guitars" on folk, country, and rock stages. The 1957 SJ-200 Light Aged pays tribute to the golden era models with premium luthiery (AAA flamed maple, checkerboard marquetry on the back) and a handcrafted aged finish by Murphy Lab, delivering the aesthetics and feel of a sought-after vintage instrument.
Who Is It For and Which Styles?
Designed for intermediate to professional guitarists, this Super Jumbo excels in vocal accompaniment, broad strumming, and dynamic flatpicking. Its impressive projection and note sustain make it a top choice both on stage and in the studio for folk, country, Americana, rock, and pop. It also responds well to fingerstyle with controlled playing.
Sound
The thermally aged Sitka spruce top gains in responsiveness and harmonic richness, while the carved X-bracing maximizes projection and sustain. The AAA flamed maple back and sides provide precise attack, "piano-like" lows, focused mids, and sparkling highs, typical of the Super Jumbo format. The four-bar mustache rosewood bridge, combined with bone nut and saddle, optimizes vibration transmission for clear articulation and a wide dynamic range.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To preserve and enhance your SJ-200, we recommend phosphor bronze steel strings with a gauge of .012-.053 suitable for 6-string acoustic guitars, a case humidifier to stabilize humidity, a quality strap with headstock attachment, and a capo for 6-string acoustic guitars. The instrument comes with a Lifton hard case in 1950s style.
