The Essentials to Know About the Gibson ES-335 DOT Guitar

  • The quintessential ES sound: two Gibson humbuckers Calibrated T-Type for a range from warm clean tones to singing crunch.

  • Comfort and vintage feel: mahogany neck with a rounded "C" profile and rosewood fingerboard with "Dot" inlays.

  • Tuning stability and accuracy: Vintage Deluxe tuners, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece.

  • Satin Nitro finish: a thin, breathable lacquer with a subtle and premium look.

A Historic Reference: the ES-335, the Foundation of the Gibson ES Family

Introduced in 1958, the ES-335 established itself as the cornerstone of the ES line thanks to a rare balance between hollow resonance and feedback control. The ES-335 DOT version continues this DNA with a timeless aesthetic (dot markers, nickel hardware, black pickguard) and construction choices designed to deliver the Gibson ES tone heard on decades of recordings, from blues and rock to soul and jazz.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The Gibson ES-335 DOT is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking an expressive instrument sensitive to attack and playing volume. It excels in blues, rock, jazz, pop, and funk: the neck pickup delivers warm, enveloping tones, while the bridge pickup provides bite and definition. With two volumes and two tone controls, you can quickly sculpt a wide variety of textures, from jazz velvet to punchy riffs.

The Sound

Its semi-hollow 335-style construction combines a laminated body (maple/poplar/maple) with a maple center block: you benefit from a nice acoustic openness, rich mids, and excellent sustain as gain increases. The spruce bracing contributes to dynamic response and projection, while the aluminum ABR-1 and Stop Bar combo promotes a direct vibration feel and singing sustain. The Calibrated T-Type humbuckers offer a modern balance yet stay true to the vintage spirit: firm lows, present mids, clear highs, with remarkable versatility in both clean and overdriven settings.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The guitar comes with a Hard Shell Case and a Gibson Accessory Kit. The original strings are gauge 010-046: if you want to maintain the factory feel and setup balance, stick to this gauge when replacing strings.
