Essential Information About the Gibson Les Paul Modern Studio Guitar, Wine Red Satin
- Les Paul Studio DNA: mahogany body with Ultra Modern weight relief and maple top, preserving the Gibson tone while enhancing comfort.
- Modernized playability: SlimTaper neck, modern contoured heel, and ebony fingerboard with compound radius for low action and easier access to the higher frets.
- Extended tonal palette: 490R and 498T pickups with coil tap, phase, and Pure Bypass via push/pull controls, covering everything from heavy rock to clearer, punchier sounds.
- Sleek and effective look: satin nitro finish in Wine Red and black nickel hardware for a modern, no-frills aesthetic.
From Studio to Modern Studio: The "no-nonsense" spirit with high-end refinements
For decades, the Les Paul Studio has appealed to guitarists seeking the essential Les Paul sound in a more streamlined approach. The Les Paul Modern Studio takes this philosophy further by incorporating improvements from the Modern line: revised ergonomics (contoured heel), enhanced playing comfort (compound radius), and more ambitious electronics (phase and bypass). The result is a Les Paul designed for both stage and studio use, direct, efficient, yet significantly more versatile.
For which guitarists and styles?
This Les Paul is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want an electric guitar capable of handling rehearsals, gigs, and sessions without compromise. The 490R/498T humbuckers cover a wide range of rock, hard rock, powerful blues, and more modern genres, while the coil tap and phase options allow exploration of clearer and sharper tones suitable for pop, indie, or certain funk parts.
Tone
The combination of mahogany body and maple top remains a Les Paul classic: dense low mids, precise attack, and generous sustain. The neck pickup, the 490R, delivers a warm and singing tone, ideal for smooth leads and velvety rhythms. At the bridge, the 498T offers higher output with prominent mids and a sharper response for riffs, solos that cut through the mix, and thick distortion. The push/pull controls greatly expand the tonal range: the coil tap refines and opens up the sound, the phase control creates more hollow and "nasal" timbres, and the Pure Bypass provides a more direct signal path for a rawer, more immediate sound.
Recommended compatible accessories
This guitar comes with a soft case and is strung with 10-46 gauge strings. To maintain the original feel, you can stick with string sets in .010-.046 (or equivalent). The output jack is standard 1/4 inch, so a regular instrument cable is perfectly suitable.
