Gretsch Drums Renown Maple Stage Standard 22 Cherry Burst

Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Gretsch Renown Maple has established itself over decades as a reliable choice for drummers seeking a unique kit capable of handling everything. Positioned as an accessible high-end series, it incorporates the brand's historic codes, with a true focus on sonic consistency across the entire kit. Manufactured in Taiwan to demanding quality standards, the Renown Maple aims for that famous "big American sound" cherished by fans of expressive drums rich in harmonics and easy to place in a mix.

Who This Drum Kit Is For

The Renown Maple RN2-E8246 is primarily intended for intermediate to professional drummers looking for a reliable, balanced maple kit capable of handling very diverse contexts. Whether in clubs or on tour, it remains controlled and clear while maintaining natural breadth. Style-wise, it excels in rock and pop thanks to its projection, while retaining the warmth and sensitivity necessary for jazz, swing, and studio sessions where every nuance of stroke counts.

Features and Innovations

At the core of this kit are 7-ply maple shells combined with a 30-degree bearing edge: a combination that promotes a clean head contact, quick vibration response, and an immediate feel under the stick. The Silver Sealer interior coating contributes to the Gretsch identity by enhancing clarity and projection while preserving a lively character. The Gretsch 302 steel hoops contribute to tuning stability and precise attack. For playing comfort, the kit includes a tom suspension system and a Gretsch round tom mount on the bass drum, with double tom mount included, to achieve a clean, stable, and easily adjustable setup.

Sound

Maple is a reference choice for those wanting a drum kit that is both warm and versatile. On the Renown Maple, it delivers a natural roundness in the midrange, a clear attack, and a musical sustain that lets notes breathe without becoming overwhelming. The result: the toms sing with harmonic openness that highlights the music's chords, while the bass drum provides a broad and deep foundation, easy to shape depending on heads and tuning.

The 30-degree bearing edge enhances the sensation of "openness": the head works more freely, which favors timbral richness, dynamic responsiveness, and strong projection in live playing. In the studio, this combination helps achieve a full sound right from the take, with sufficient definition for fast patterns and a body reserve for heavier grooves. The supplied Remo USA heads provide a solid and consistent base to start with, whether you seek a tight and articulate tuning or a lower, more massive register.
