About this method
The Hal Leonard Guitar Method is designed for anyone who wants to learn acoustic or electric guitar through a progressive approach developed over many years of teaching. In Volume 2, the goal is to enrich your playing by developing both accompaniment skills and the fundamentals of solo playing, with concepts that can be applied directly to songs.
You will study essential chords (Am, Dm, A, E, F, B7) to expand your accompaniment repertoire, as well as a structured introduction to "power chords", which are essential in rock and pop. The method also covers "fingerpicking" to develop greater right-hand independence, and explores rhythm in greater depth through syncopation, dotted notes and triplets, helping improve timing and phrasing.
To take your playing further, the volume includes Carter-style solos, bass lines to help you better understand harmony and accompaniment, and exercises on pentatonic scales, essential for building licks and getting started with improvisation. Tablature is also included to make reading easier and speed up the learning of new riffs. All of this is supported by 92 songs, riffs and examples, along with included online audio (57 tracks) to practise at tempo, develop your ear and play in conditions similar to those of a band.
