Summary of this method
This method from the Jazz Play-Along series has been conceived as a true improvisation "laboratory" for jazz musicians. Each piece is offered in a user-friendly lead sheet format, accompanied by audio tracks providing several playback options to quickly progress on rhythmic placement, articulation, and stylistic intention. The principle is simple: you play with a professional rhythm section while retaining the freedom to shape your playing space, from guided practice to performance.
For study, each tune includes a track with melodic cues performed with the right style and inflections, solid rhythmic accompaniments, solo-dedicated choruses, as well as options to remove the bass part and the piano part. This approach helps transition from melody transcription to creating your own lines, while developing harmonic listening and breath management within the chorus.
For performance, you also have a stereo track of full accompaniment without melody, as well as additional choruses to improvise longer and build a more developed form. The repertoire of this volume brings together essential standards and themes: Black Narcissus, Bolivia, Cantaloupe Island, Caravan, Contemplation, Freedom Jazz Dance, Impressions, Shutterbug, So What, Yes Or No.
