Summary of This Book

The John Coltrane: Omnibook gathers over 50 pieces as performed by John Coltrane, a major figure and one of the most influential saxophonists in jazz history. Designed as a comprehensive practice resource for B-flat saxophone, this book is aimed at musicians who wish to closely analyze Coltrane's writing and improvisation and draw inspiration from his ideas to develop their own musical language.

Through this extensive selection, one finds a particularly rich panorama of his universe, ranging from compositions that have become legendary to revisited standards, with a central focus on mastery of harmony and a sense of melodic movement. Coltrane notably helped popularize the modal approach in jazz and later explored freer territories, making this collection an excellent foundation for working on both line clarity and the intensity of the language.

Among the included titles are emblematic pieces such as "Blue Train (Blue Trane)," "Countdown," "Impressions," "Central Park West," "Equinox," "Alabama," "Body And Soul," "In A Sentimental Mood," "Mr. P.C.," "26-2," and "So What." This material is ideal for practicing sight-reading, refining the ear, understanding chord progressions, and enriching one's vocabulary of licks, motifs, and rhythmic variations in a decidedly jazz context.

Many of Coltrane's most well known pieces, ballads, Hard Bop, modal jazz. If everything is not playable at my level, it is a pleasure to be able to follow Coltrane's improvisations with the help of a score. The realization of the work is superb.
