Summary of This Collection
Designed for pianists drawn to the jazz repertoire and language, this collection from the Hal Leonard Jazz Piano Solos series offers an approach focused on solo playing: expressive right hand, solid accompaniments, and characteristic sounds of the style. The arrangements by Brent Edstrom favor smooth reading and comfortable setup at the piano, allowing you to concentrate on what matters: groove, articulation, dynamics, and musical structure.
Throughout the pages, you can consolidate essential jazz pianist reflexes: balance between melody and accompaniment, register management, highlighting strong beats, and developing a more "jazz" sound through typical pianistic harmonizations and textures. This collection fits well into a daily practice routine (reading, setup, memorization) as well as a more musical goal, such as performance in auditions, intimate settings, or simply the pleasure of playing polished solos.
Whether you want to expand your library of jazz piano sheet music or find a reliable resource to work on interpretation, this collection is an excellent companion: it emphasizes musicality and coherence of writing while remaining practical for study. An ideal format to explore jazz on the piano through ready-to-play solos that you can shape according to your touch and sense of swing.
