Summary of This Score

Already enthusiastically acclaimed at its premiere, Johannes Brahms' sole Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 remains today a cornerstone of the great repertoire, indispensable both in concert and advanced study. This edition highlights the decisive collaboration between Brahms and violinist Joseph Joachim, to whom the famous cadenza associated with the work is attributed.

Designed as an Urtext edition, this publication is based on the text from the "Neue Brahms-Gesamtausgabe" (new complete edition), guaranteeing a rigorous and coherent musical reading. It includes the piano reduction : originally particularly dense and demanding, it has been carefully reworked by Johannes Umbreit to preserve the orchestral substance while making the accompaniment more manageable for pianists.

For violinists, working comfort is central to this edition: you have parts with or without fingerings, allowing you to adapt the score to your method, your teacher, or your artistic project. In addition to the available annotations, this version also incorporates fingering suggestions by Frank Peter Zimmermann, valuable for refining technique, position management, and phrasing projection in such a structurally significant work.
