Summary of This Score
This score brings together one of the pinnacles of the Romantic piano repertoire: Chopin's Nocturnes. From opus 9 to opus 62, the volume offers a comprehensive journey through the composer's nocturnal writing, from the most immediately lyrical pages to the later pieces, more refined and harmonically daring. It is an ideal volume to enrich one's repertoire, build a sound aesthetic, and refine the melodic line, which is so essential in Chopin's music.
The musicological edition prepared by Ewald Zimmermann emphasizes clarity and reliability of the text: articulations, dynamics, phrasing, and expressive markings are presented rigorously to support precise work on touch and color. The performer will find a solid foundation here to develop natural rubato, controlled legato, and more precise pedaling, while respecting the right-hand/left-hand balance characteristic of Chopin's writing.
The collection also includes posthumous Nocturnes, including the famous Nocturne in C-sharp minor (KK IVa,16) offered in two versions, allowing comparison of variants and exploration of different phrasing and ornamentation options. A reference edition for intermediate to advanced pianists, teachers, and informed amateurs seeking a serious edition for study and performance.
