A "New York 70's" Spirit Accessible in 500 Series Format
The LANG 312L follows the tradition of New York preamps with an energetic and muscular character, delivering that immediate presence sensation that has defined decades of recordings. Designed to add depth and impact, it aims for a "big" and solid sound while remaining accessible and easy to deploy in a modern 500 Series configuration. The goal is clear: to recapture a classic vibe with performance-oriented components and design, without complicating your workflow.Who and What For: Demanding Recording, Studio and Live
This preamp targets musicians, home studio users, and sound engineers who want a punchy sound and a wide gain range to cover all scenarios: vocals, guitars, drums, percussion, amps, ambient miking, as well as more modern productions seeking a clear attack and dense signal right from the source. The +25 dB lifter makes it especially relevant if you use ribbon microphones or vintage mics with low output levels, which are often difficult to push without increasing background noise. In live contexts (recording, broadcast, mobile racks), its 500 Series format and front panel connectivity enable quick and reliable setup.Technical specifications

Questions frequently asked
Is the Heritage Audio 312L suitable for ribbon microphones?
The internal +25 dB lifter extends the gain range from +15 to +90 dB, making it easier to use ribbon or vintage microphones with low output levels. The equivalent input noise is specified at -130 dBu.
What front panel connections are available?
A front panel combo XLR/TS connector accepts microphones via XLR and instruments via TS through the Hi-Z DI input.
Can a bass be plugged directly into this 500 Series preamp?
The Hi-Z instrument DI input in TS allows direct connection of a bass, guitar, synthesizer, or drum machine. The 500 Series format requires a compatible chassis for power and rack integration.
What sonic character does the 312L provide?
The design aims for a 1970s New York-style character, direct and energetic, with a very fast transient response. The transformer-balanced architecture combines a 2622 LANG input transformer and a custom CINEMAG output transformer. This configuration focuses on a sharp attack and solid low end.
What settings are provided for very strong sources?
A -20 dB pad attenuates high-level sources, while the phase inversion facilitates multi-miking setups. Phantom power 48 V is available for microphones that require it.
