Amadeus: Hohner Expertise at the Top of the Chromatic Range

Since the invention of the chromatic harmonica in 1912, Hohner has established itself as an essential reference through an approach combining innovation, manufacturing consistency, and musical excellence. The Amadeus embodies this philosophy in its most luxurious version: an instrument developed in collaboration with Italian virtuoso Willi Burger, designed to offer stable response, precise slide mechanics, and a decidedly premium finish. In Hohner's professional range, every element is carefully adjusted to ensure excellent airtightness (thus more control, more nuances, less effort) and reliable intonation across all registers.

Who Is This Chromatic Harmonica in C (Do) For?

The Hohner Amadeus is primarily aimed at advanced and professional harmonica players seeking an expressive instrument, very consistent and enjoyable to play over time. In the key of C (Do), it is an excellent choice for jazz, classical, pop, stage music, and all situations where reliable intonation and a complete harmonic palette are expected. Demanding musicians will appreciate its stability, while progressing players will find a "definitive" harmonica capable of supporting advanced work on phrasing, articulation, and dynamics.

Sound and Design

Thanks to its 1.2-millimeter brass reeds and attention to adjustment, the Amadeus delivers a full-bodied sound with good projection and a homogeneous response across three octaves. The choice of a transparent acrylic comb contributes to a clear and consistent playing sensation, while offering a unique look, instantly recognizable on stage. The gold-plated mouthpiece provides a particularly smooth touch and appreciable comfort during long sessions, while the chrome-plated cover completes the ensemble with an elegant and professional finish.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is naturally centered on one key (ideal for blues/folk/country), whereas a chromatic harmonica allows access to all notes thanks to a slide that adds the semitones: it is the royal path for jazz, classical, and modulating repertoires. The Hohner Amadeus is indeed a chromatic : with the slide out you play the "natural" notes, and with the slide pressed you get the corresponding altered notes, over a range of 3 octaves.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the finish and keep the mouthpiece always pleasant, a soft microfiber cloth (for wiping after playing) is a simple and effective complement. The supplied hard case remains the best ally for transport, protecting the instrument from shocks and dust.
