An Iconic Model in the Tradition of Hohner Chromatics

In 1912, Hohner made history by inventing the chromatic harmonica, opening the door to a complete interpretation of the scale (whole and half tones) across several octaves. The Super 64X continues this legacy as a luxury version of the Super 64: a stage and studio instrument designed for demanding players, with components adjusted for airtightness and precise tuning at professional standards.

Useful glossary: the comb is the body of the harmonica that channels the air; the plates hold the reeds; the slide allows access to altered notes by shifting the airflow to a second set of holes.

For Which Musician and Styles?

The Hohner Super 64X is primarily aimed at advanced and professional harmonica players seeking a wide range, stable response, and solid dynamics, especially in the low register. Its C tuning makes it an ideal foundation for working on repertoire, chord progressions, and standards.

Particularly comfortable in jazz, classical music, pop, film music, and solo repertoires, it is also suitable for contexts where the harmonica is expected to have a true presence in the mix, with clear attacks and good projection.

Sound and Design

Designed for performance, the Super 64X focuses on precise playability and efficient sound production thanks to an assembly oriented towards airtightness. The 1.05-millimeter brass plates contribute to stability and sound retention, while the double reed sets in the two lower octaves provide extra volume and a remarkable foundation in the bass.

The transparent polycarbonate body offers excellent dimensional consistency, useful for maintaining a regular response. For comfort, the gold-plated mouthpiece promotes smooth sliding. The black stainless steel covers with "greblon" non-stick coating complete a luxurious aesthetic and refined feel, while also contributing to projection.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is centered on one key (often ideal for blues, folk, country) and mainly plays the corresponding major scale, using techniques like bends to enrich notes. A chromatic harmonica, on the other hand, provides access to all notes (whole and half tones) thanks to a slide, making it very versatile for jazz, classical, and modulating repertoires. The Hohner Super 64X is a chromatic in C, with a range of four octaves.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

For transport and protection, opt for a hard case suitable for a 16-hole chromatic harmonica measuring 18.5 centimeters. For routine maintenance, a soft microfiber cloth (lint-free) is ideal for wiping the exterior and preserving the finish.
