Blues Harp: a HOHNER classic at the heart of the MS series
Alongside the "standard" Richter models, Hohner has developed harmonicas with a more distinctive personality, designed for specific styles and techniques. The Blues Harp has established itself for decades as a "bluesy" reference: an instrument made for musicality, clear attacks, and expressive effects. Integrated into the Modular System (MS), it benefits from a manufacturing philosophy where key elements are designed to be replaced and combined within the series, allowing you to tailor your instrument to your needs.
For which musician and styles?
This Hohner Blues Harp MS is primarily aimed at beginners and intermediate players who want a characterful diatonic, but it remains perfectly relevant for advanced players seeking a tonal color in B-flat (Bb). It excels in blues, rock, folk, and country, and is well suited to expressive diatonic techniques (attacks, vibrato, and "wailing" playing).
Sound and design
Thanks to its Richter tuning and the interaction of blow/draw reeds, this diatonic facilitates chord formation and encourages instinctive playing. The doussie wood body (brown) provides an organic feel and lively response, while the 0.9-millimeter brass reeds ensure good stability and solid projection. The stainless steel covers complete the set with a sober and robust look, designed to last.
Diatonic or chromatic
A diatonic harmonica is centered on one key (here Bb / B-flat ) and allows easy chord production by blowing and drawing. With bending techniques, certain chromatic notes and the famous expressive character of blues can be achieved. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica is designed to offer all notes with a more "all keys" approach, often sought after in jazz and more modulatory repertoires. The Blues Harp MS is indeed a diatonic, crafted for roots and expressive playing.
