Pro Harp: The Hohner Spirit and MS Series Serving a Modern Classic

Hohner is one of the iconic harmonica brands, offering, alongside standard Richter models, instruments designed for specific aesthetics and playing techniques. The Pro Harp fits this philosophy: a diatonic with a strong character, recognizable by its elegant black design, but above all designed to provide stable and efficient playability.
This model belongs to the MS Series (Modular System), a brand concept where key elements (body, plates, covers) are designed to be interchangeable within the MS family. For the player, this means a harmonica that is easier to maintain over time and a coherent platform if you already own other MS diatonics.

For Which Player and Styles?

The Hohner Pro Harp MS in B is aimed at motivated beginners as well as intermediate players seeking a responsive, airtight, and pleasant instrument to play. Its Richter tuning naturally favors chords (blow/draw) and typical diatonic effects.
Regarding styles, it is in the diatonic DNA: blues (bends, "crying" notes), rock, folk, country, as well as pop and rhythmic accompaniment. The B tuning is particularly useful if you play in related keys or if your repertoire/band frequently requires it.

Sound and Design

The Pro Harp MS aims for a direct and solid playing feel. The 0.9 mm brass plates, milled to improve airtightness, contribute to a quick response and easier sound production, with good stability when playing hard or with dynamics. The plastic body provides appreciable stability (less sensitive to variations) and consistent comfort both in hand and at the mouthpiece.
Its "black edition" aesthetic is not just a detail: the black lacquered stainless steel covers, without side openings, contribute to a more "contained" feel and frontal projection, while giving the instrument an immediately recognizable visual identity. The whole remains compact, with a length of 10.4 cm, typical of a 10-hole diatonic.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is centered on a given key: it facilitates chords and "instinctive" playing in accompaniment, while allowing certain intermediate notes through bends, highly sought after in blues. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica provides more direct access to all notes (often via a slide button), making it very versatile in jazz or classical music. The Hohner Pro Harp MS presented here is indeed a diatonic harmonica, in B tuning, with Richter tuning.
