A Pro Harp Within the Modular System: Hohner's Approach

Alongside the "classic" Richter harmonicas, Hohner has developed models with a strong character, designed to meet specific techniques and styles. The Pro Harp fits this logic: a 10-hole diatonic with a recognizable black design, and above all integrated into the MS series ("Modular System"). The idea is simple: the comb (also called the body, the central part forming the air channels), the reed plates, and the covers are designed to be disassembled and replaced more easily, allowing you to adapt the instrument to your preferences or extend its lifespan.

For Which Musician and Styles?

The Hohner Pro Harp MS in E is suitable both for the motivated beginner seeking a reliable and pleasant instrument, and for the intermediate player wanting to work on intonation, dynamics, and bends. In Richter tuning, the note layout facilitates chord playing by blowing and drawing, and opens the door to essential bends in blues.
This configuration is also very comfortable in rock, folk, country, pop, and rhythmic accompaniment. The E key is particularly interesting for playing with guitarists (riffs and progressions in E) and for achieving a sharp sound, with a high register that cuts well through the mix.

Sound and Design

The Pro Harp focuses on a direct and responsive sound: the key element is airtightness (the instrument's ability to limit air leaks), which determines ease of play, note stability, and control of bends. The 0.9-millimeter brass plates, milled for increased airtightness, promote a clear response and better sound sustain, useful both for strong attacks and softer nuances.
The black plastic body provides a consistent and stable feel in hand (less sensitive to humidity changes) and a comfortable mouthpiece. The black lacquered stainless steel covers, without side openings, contribute to a more "centered" projection and a pleasant feel on the lips. The matte non-stick " Greblon " coating adds to the aesthetics and limits marks, keeping the instrument looking neat over time.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is designed around a main key (here E ) and a tuning scheme (here Richter ) that facilitates chords and rhythmic playing. It also allows obtaining additional notes through bends on certain holes, widely used in blues. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica provides access to all notes via a mechanism (often a slide button) and is more suited to jazz and classical music. The Hohner Pro Harp presented here is indeed a diatonic : expressive, instinctive, and particularly adapted to "roots" playing techniques.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To protect your instrument, a 10-hole diatonic harmonica case is a safe choice (the Pro Harp measures 10.4 cm ). For playing standing or with another instrument (guitar, keyboard), a harmonica neck holder is generally compatible with the 10-hole format. Finally, a soft cloth and minimal maintenance (drying after playing) will help preserve the covers and the longevity of the reeds.
