An Iconic Pro Harp in Hohner's MS Range

Hohner is one of the historic, essential harmonica brands, offering, alongside standard Richter models, a family of instruments with distinct personalities designed to meet specific techniques and aesthetics. The Pro Harp embodies this spirit: a diatonic model with a strong character, appreciated for its "full black" presentation and consistent manufacturing quality.
It belongs to the MS Series (Modular System), an integrated design concept at Hohner: the goal is to facilitate maintenance and customization through parts designed to be interchangeable within the MS family. For the musician, this means an instrument built to last, evolve, and remain enjoyable to play, session after session.

Who Is This Key of G Diatonic Harmonica For?

The Hohner Pro Harp in G is well suited for motivated beginners seeking a responsive and reliable instrument, as well as intermediate players looking for an expressive diatonic to work on attacks, dynamics, and effects. The key of G is a common choice for exploring upbeat repertoires and bright accompaniments, while remaining very relevant for melodic playing.
Thanks to its Richter tuning, it excels in styles that exploit chords and expressiveness: blues (bends and phrasing), rock, folk, country, and pop. It is also a great playground for developing breathing, articulation, and sound control on a very standard 10-hole format.

Sound and Design

The Pro Harp focuses on precise response and comfortable playability. Its 0.9 millimeter brass plates, advertised as milled for enhanced airtightness, promote efficient airflow: the sound production is more direct, which helps stabilize note attacks and better control dynamics. With its 20 reeds, it maintains the classic logic of the 10-hole diatonic, ideal for working on a consistent tone across the entire range.
Design-wise, it stands out with its black lacquered stainless steel covers, without side openings. This design contributes to a more "contained" playing feel and a very recognizable aesthetic. The black plastic body provides stability and comfort while limiting sensitivity to common variations (humidity, intensive use). The plastic mouthpiece coating also adds a soft touch sensation, appreciated during long sessions.

Diatonic or Chromatic?

A diatonic harmonica is centered on a given key and naturally facilitates chords when blowing and drawing, making it very popular in blues and folk music. It also allows access to certain missing notes through bending, giving it that typical expressive character. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica is designed to access all notes of the chromatic scale and is often used in more modulatory contexts (jazz, classical). The Hohner Pro Harp presented here is a diatonic in G.
