Marine Band: a reinvented Hohner legend

At Hohner, the Marine Band family holds a special place: it is a historical reference for diatonics, recognizable by its "traditional" approach and distinctive sound identity. The Marine Band Crossover follows this lineage while adopting a more contemporary manufacturing process: precisely assembled parts, screwed plates, and carefully chosen materials for stability. The result: a model tailored for musicians who want the Marine Band grain but with a design focused on stage use and consistency.

For which musician and styles?

The Hohner Crossover is primarily aimed at the intermediate to professional musician seeking a responsive, accurate, and robust diatonic. Its tuning and sealing facilitate note-by-note playing in multiple positions while maintaining round chords for accompaniment. It is particularly suited to blues (with excellent bending potential), but also to rock, soul, jazz, and funk, including amplified playing when you want a clear attack and strong projection.

Sound and design

As a Richter diatonic harmonica, this model is designed to offer a balance between immediate access to chords (blow/draw) and expressiveness through bends. The 0.9 millimeter brass plates promote good response stability and a solid feel under the breath. The bamboo body (blond, light lacquered) provides excellent durability over time, while the stainless steel screwed covers contribute to projection and reliability during intensive use. The SuperGlide mouthpiece coating enhances comfort and smoothness, useful during fast passages and strong articulations.

Diatonic or chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is centered on a given key and naturally facilitates chords and rhythmic playing; it is also the family of instruments most associated with blues thanks to bending techniques that allow notes "in between" and enrich the scale. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica provides access to all notes via a dedicated mechanism, often favored in jazz and classical music. The Hohner Marine Band Crossover is indeed a diatonic, here in D, ideal for expressive styles and reed techniques typical of diatonics.
