A Pro Harp with a Strong Character and the "Modular System" Spirit by Hohner

Hohner is one of the essential historic brands in harmonicas, offering much more than standard Richter models. The Pro Harp fits this logic: providing an instrument with an immediately recognizable style and a modern feel. In the MS Series (Modular System), Hohner emphasizes an integrated design aimed at facilitating customization and maintenance: the idea is to be able to replace or combine certain elements within the MS family to evolve the playing feel or easily restore the instrument.

For Which Musician and Which Styles

This Hohner Pro Harp in F# is particularly suited for intermediate to advanced harmonica players who want a specific key to complement their set, work on pieces tuned in F#, or explore playing positions (especially in a group). The 10-hole diatonic format is a standard for blues, rock, folk, and pop, thanks to the "ready-to-play" chord logic and the possibility to bend certain notes to achieve more plaintive tones or chromatic passages. Beginners can use it, but a key like F# is often chosen as a complement to a more common key when starting out.

Sound and Design

The core of the sound comes from the reeds (metal tongues) fixed on plates : here, Hohner uses 0.9 mm brass plates, with milling (milled plates) that promotes better airtightness between the plates and the body (comb). Practically, this helps achieve a sharper attack, a more consistent response, and a noticeable sense of control when working on dynamics or bends. The plastic body (black) provides stability and durability while maintaining a consistent feel in the mouth.
In terms of design, the Pro Harp claims minimalist elegance: black lacquered stainless steel covers with no side openings. This choice also influences the perception of projection and sound feedback: the instrument retains a more "contained" and focused character while remaining sufficiently present for ensemble playing. The plastic mouthpiece coating aims for a pleasant feel on the lips and smooth sliding during quick movements between holes.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is designed around a key and layout that allows easy formation of chords by blowing and drawing, making it a natural choice for blues, folk, or rock. The chromatic harmonica, on the other hand, provides access to all notes via a mechanism (slide) and is more suited to highly modulating lines (jazz, classical). The Hohner Pro Harp presented here is a diatonic with Richter tuning, a configuration that facilitates typical style expression (bends, vibrato, attacks, chords) while allowing missing notes to be filled in by technique.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the comfort and longevity of your harmonica, the most universal and compatibility-safe accessories are a microfiber cloth (for wiping after playing) and a cleaning solution suitable for wind instruments (used sparingly, without soaking). A protective case dedicated to a 10-hole diatonic harmonica is also recommended to limit shocks and dust.
