Hohner Pro Harp MS: The Blues Spirit of an Iconic Model in the MS Series

For decades, Hohner has been a key reference in diatonic harmonicas, especially in blues and popular music repertoires. The Pro Harp is among the brand's "special" models, featuring a distinctive visual identity and a character designed for expressive playing.
It is part of the MS series (Modular System): a design concept where elements are made to be interchangeable within the range. The result: a practical instrument to maintain, and a solid base to refine comfort and playing feel according to personal preferences.

For Which Musician and Styles?

The Hohner Pro Harp MS in D is suitable for both the motivated beginner (seeking a reliable and comfortable harmonica) and the intermediate or advanced player looking for a responsive diatonic. Its Richter tuning naturally favors chords and expressive effects.
In practice, it excels in blues (bending, "wailing" notes, sharp attacks), but also fits very well in rock, country, folk, pop, and rhythmic accompaniment playing.

Sound and Design

Thanks to its 0.9 millimeter brass plates and their machining aimed at better airtightness, the Pro Harp MS offers a quick response and easy sound production, useful for working on nuances and bends. Intonation and consistency benefit from an instrument that leaks less, especially at low volume.
Its plastic body provides stability and comfort to the touch, while limiting sensitivity to environmental changes (an advantage for mobile playing). Aesthetically, its black lacquered stainless steel covers, without side openings, deliver an elegant design and more direct projection, appreciated in both melodic playing and accompaniment.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is centered on one key (here D ): it facilitates chords and allows, through blow and draw interaction, to achieve bends to reach missing notes and create the typical blues phrasing. A chromatic, on the other hand, provides access to all notes via a slide system and is more versatile in jazz and classical music. The Hohner Pro Harp MS is indeed a diatonic model with Richter tuning, designed for expressiveness and efficiency in modern playing.
