Hohner and the Chromatic: A Revolution Turned Reference

Hohner made history in wind instruments by inventing the chromatic harmonica in 1912, paving the way for full playability across whole and half tones. The Xpression continues this tradition: a premium model developed around a key priority for this type of instrument, airtightness, which directly affects ease of play, precision, and expressiveness. The result: a modern harmonica designed to meet current expectations for comfort and performance.

For Which Musician and Styles?

The Hohner Xpression targets a wide audience: motivated beginners who want to start on a reliable and comfortable chromatic, as well as advanced musicians seeking a responsive instrument to work on phrasing and expression. Thanks to its versatility, it is particularly suited for jazz, classical, film music, pop, and all situations where clean chromatic runs and modulations are needed without key constraints.

Sound and Design

The Xpression's design emphasizes a direct playing feel: good airtightness promotes a more stable projection, immediate response, and finer control of dynamics. Its ABS comb, robust and optimized for sound, contributes to stability and consistent behavior. The 48 precisely machined brass reeds provide quick response and durability suited for intensive use. Ergonomically, the rounded stainless steel covers and the CNC milled mouthpiece enhance grip and smoothness, allowing long playing sessions with maximum comfort.

Diatonic or Chromatic

A diatonic harmonica is generally centered on one key (e.g., C major) and excels in blues, folk, or country, while a chromatic harmonica allows playing all notes via a slider, making it very versatile in jazz and classical music. The Hohner Xpression is a chromatic harmonica : ideal if you want natural access to half tones, modulations, and a broader repertoire.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve performance and playing hygiene, a microfiber cloth (for the mouthpiece and covers) and a cleaning product suitable for instruments are good complements. A case is also recommended if you often carry your harmonica to protect it from shocks and dust.
