Essential Information About the Ibanez AE140 Guitar

  • Immediate Comfort: AE format with reduced depth and Comfort Grip neck in nyatoh for a smooth grip, ideal for long playing sessions.

  • Warm and Precise Sound: solid okoumé top, okoumé back and sides, with X-M Bracing for great dynamics and clear projection.

  • Stage Ready: Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup + AEQ-TP2 preamp with built-in tuner and 2-band EQ.

  • Improved On-Stage Monitoring: A.I.R.port designed to help you hear yourself better while playing, without relying solely on amp monitoring.

An AE Designed as a Showcase of Ibanez Acoustic-Electric Expertise

The Ibanez AE140 (from the AE series, Open Pore Natural finish) fits into Ibanez's modern approach: respecting the acoustic guitar heritage while adapting it to the current needs of musicians. The AE series is presented as a flagship line of acoustic-electrics focused on playability and amplification efficiency, with lutherie choices aimed at balance, response, and comfort. On the AE140, this philosophy is expressed through a contemporary body, functional details (sculpted bridge, practical pins), and electronics designed to transition smoothly from living room to stage.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

Thanks to its ergonomics and reduced-depth AE format, the AE140 is well suited for motivated beginners as well as intermediate players seeking an easy-to-play acoustic-electric, and for stage musicians looking for a reliable and comfortable instrument. Its balanced tonal identity makes it relevant for pop, folk, variety, vocal accompaniment, and fingerstyle parts when clear note articulation is desired. The built-in tuner and 2-band EQ facilitate quick changes during rehearsals, home studio sessions, or on stage.

Sound, Craftsmanship, and Amplification: Warmth, Response, and Controlled Projection

The solid okoumé top provides a warm sonic foundation, with a generous midrange and a defined attack. The okoumé back and sides reinforce this woody character: in soft playing or fingerpicking, the guitar remains round and nuanced, while in strumming the instrument gains presence, especially in the upper mids, with clear projection. The AE shape (shallower depth) aims for a compromise between comfort and sound dispersion, practical for players standing or sitting for long periods, while maintaining good spectral clarity.

The X-M Bracing, combined with scalloped shaping on some braces, promotes efficient vibration transfer: the guitar responds quickly, with dynamic range usable from light to strong playing. The Laurel Scalloped bridge also contributes to vibrational efficiency and offers more flexibility for action adjustment than a more traditional bridge. In terms of feel, the Comfort Grip neck in nyatoh is designed to facilitate chord changes and phrasing, while the laurel fingerboard completes the picture with a tonal color often perceived as warm and "musical."

For amplification, the Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup is designed to faithfully translate the acoustic character of the instrument. The Ibanez AEQ-TP2 preamp adds a Bass / Treble equalizer and a built-in tuner, very useful for quickly controlling the low end (avoiding "boomy" effect) and adjusting the brightness of the highs depending on the venue. A notable feature: the A.I.R.port, with its dedicated internal structure, improves the perception of what you are playing, helping to control attack and dynamics in real conditions.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To maintain the original feel and tension exactly, you can choose a set of D'Addario XTAPB1253 strings with gauges .012/.016/.024/.032/.042/.053. For the electronics, plan for a 9V battery (1 piece) to ensure reliable power. Depending on your use, a 1/4" jack cable (6.35 mm) is suitable for acoustic amp connection, and a standard XLR cable can be used with the XLR output for direct connection (mixer/stage box) when appropriate.
