The AZ Series: Ibanez DNA Serving Today's Guitarists
With the AZ series, Ibanez designed a platform intended to cover a very wide spectrum: from the warmest blues to the most cutting modern riffs. The AZ22S1F fully embodies this "player-focused" philosophy with refined ergonomics (well-balanced asymmetrical body, smooth neck) and electronics that multiply possibilities without complicating use. The result: an electric guitar crafted for musicians who want a single instrument capable of everything, without compromising comfort.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
The Ibanez AZ22S1F targets intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a versatile, precise, and comfortable guitar for long sessions. The HSS configuration allows tackling a wide range of styles: blues and funk (single coil positions for crisp attacks), pop and rock (full cleans and defined crunch), as well as hard rock and modern metal thanks to the more powerful bridge humbucker. The T106 vibrato adds an expressive dimension for clean passages, subtle dive bombs, and delicate vibratos.
A Modern Sound Palette: Woods, Pickups, and Switching at the Heart of Its Character
The combination of flamed maple top and alder body provides a very balanced tonal foundation: alder favors a clear and even register, while maple adds definition to the attack and brightness useful for standing out in a mix. The roasted maple neck, known for its stability, also contributes to a quick response and a "dry," precise feel, ideal for articulated playing. The jatoba fingerboard completes the set with rich mids and well-present highs, without harshness.
On the electronics side, the Ibanez Classic Custom pickups offer true versatility: the single coils at neck and middle prioritize clarity, dynamics, and definition, while the more powerful bridge humbucker delivers body and impact in saturation. The highlight remains the dyna-MIX9 with Alter Switch: with a single gesture, you switch from humbucker mode to single-coil type tones, and some combinations even simulate a thicker sound from two single coils. Perfect for chaining crisp rhythms, open chords, and singing leads without changing guitars.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
This AZ22S1F comes with a vibrato arm and hex wrench. It is strung with .010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046 gauge strings: you can therefore choose an electric string set in 10-46 if you want to keep the original feel, or stay close in gauge to maintain vibrato balance and tuning accuracy.

Questions frequently asked
What does the dyna-MIX9 on the Ibanez AZ22S1F Violin Sunburst allow?
The dyna-MIX9 system with Alter Switch provides access to nine tonal configurations from the Ibanez Classic Custom pickups. It notably enables switching from the bridge humbucker to single-coil-like tones and achieving thicker combinations with the single coils.
Is the T106 tremolo supplied with its arm?
The T106 bridge is provided with a tremolo arm. Locking tuning machines are part of the equipment. The string spacing at the bridge is 10.5 mm.
What is the neck profile and fret type?
The AZ neck made of roasted maple measures 20.5 mm at the 1st fret and 22.5 mm at the 12th fret, with 22 jumbo stainless steel frets on a jatoba fingerboard with a 305 mm radius.
Is this HSS guitar suitable for blues and rock?
The HSS configuration combines two single coils in the neck and middle positions with a humbucker at the bridge. The singles are intended for crisp attack suitable for blues or funk, while the humbucker provides more body in overdrive for rock and modern metal.
What strings are installed on this guitar from the factory?
The original setup uses .010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046, a 10-46 gauge. A 10-46 electric string set preserves the intended feel and balance for the tremolo.
