AZ Essentials: The Spirit of the AZ Series, Made Accessible

With the AZES40B, Ibanez expands the universe of its AZ series through the AZES (AZ Essentials) line. The idea is simple: to take the AZ philosophy-modern playability, versatility, and tones suitable for many styles-and adapt it for a wider audience, especially beginner to intermediate guitarists. To make the experience smoother, this range also includes dedicated elements such as a mono-unit jack socket, a comfortable radius, and a vibrato designed to avoid annoying contact points.

For Which Guitarist and Styles?

The Ibanez AZES40B is primarily aimed at beginners who want a serious first guitar, but also at intermediate players looking for a practical, modern electric guitar capable of covering a wide range. The S-S-H configuration allows easy switching from defined clean tones (ideal for pop, funk, indie, or arpeggios) to thicker, more aggressive sounds (rock, punk, hard rock). Thanks to the dyna-MIX9, you can quickly explore different combinations without getting lost: perfect for progressing, recording your first demos, or varying textures during rehearsals.

Tone and Electronics: From Crisp to Powerful, with 9 Variations

The poplar body offers a pleasing balance: a homogeneous response with a roundness that helps achieve a consistent sound, especially on rhythm parts. The maple neck contributes to a sharper attack and good clarity, while the jatoba fingerboard enhances the mids and maintains precise highs, which helps keep notes distinct in both chords and melodies.

Regarding pickups, the AZES40B combines two Essentials single-coils (neck and middle) and an Accord humbucker in the bridge position. The singles provide clear, articulated, and dynamic sounds, useful for chicken picking, arpeggios, and "snap" tones. The bridge humbucker adds body, higher output, and better sustain under distortion for riffs and solos. The highlight is the dyna-MIX9 system with Alter Switch: you can switch from humbucker operation to tones closer to single-coil, and even access a combination that simulates a humbucker character from two single-coils. In practice, it's a very effective toolbox to find "the" right sound for each song.
