The EHB Series: Ibanez's "Total Ergonomics" Approach
With the EHB range, Ibanez pushes the idea of a modern bass designed for the musician: headless format, chambered body, optimized contours, and easy access to the upper frets thanks to rear cutaways. The EHB1005MS fits into this "performance & comfort" philosophy by combining a lightweight, perfectly balanced instrument with a multi-scale design tailored for precision and low-end stability.
For Which Bassists and Styles?
The EHB1005MS is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want a modern, versatile instrument that is particularly comfortable during long sessions. It excels in rock, metal, fusion, funk, gospel, and pop, notably thanks to its very defined low B and electronics capable of shifting from a warm, organic sound to a sharper, more articulated attack.
Tone
The American Basswood body provides a natural balance and even response, with clear mids and clean lows, ideal for a 5-string bass. The 5-piece roasted maple/walnut neck promotes a clear attack and stable sustain, while the stainless steel frets enhance precision and brightness in the upper spectrum. The multi-scale 35"-33" / 889-838 mm design contributes to a tighter, more "alive" low end while maintaining a comfortable feel on the higher strings.
On the electronics side, the Bartolini BH2 (humbucker) pickups deliver a warm and balanced response, with tighter lows and more present mids. The 3-band Vari-Mid EQ allows you to select the mid frequency to precisely shape your place in the mix. The EQ bypass enables passive operation, with tone controlled via the treble potentiometer when the EQ is bypassed.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original string tension and balance, you can stick with D'Addario EXL1705SL strings (gauges .045 .065 .080 .100 .130). Since the Schaller S-Lock strap pins are already installed, a strap equipped (or adaptable) to this standard will ensure reliable hold both in rehearsal and on stage.

Questions frequently asked
Ibanez EHB1005MS-SFM: Is the low B string well defined?
Thanks to the 35-inch (889 mm) scale length on the low string, the B benefits from increased tension. The American basswood body maintains a consistent response with a clean low end. Bartolini BH2 pickups provide a tighter bass and pronounced mids.
Can the bass be used without active EQ?
The active electronics feature an EQ bypass for passive operation. In bypass mode, tone is controlled by the treble potentiometer.
What is the scale length of this multi-scale bass?
The multi-scale length ranges from 35 to 33 inches, or 889 to 838 mm, combining higher tension on the low string with a more comfortable feel on the treble strings.
Does the headless design improve playing comfort?
The chambered body and headless design create a lightweight and balanced instrument. The rear contours facilitate access to the treble strings across the 24 frets.
Which strings and strap are compatible?
D’Addario EXL1705SL strings with gauges .045 .065 .080 .100 .130 preserve the original tension. The pre-installed Schaller S-Locks require a strap compatible with this standard.
