The GRX: An Iconic Entry Point at Ibanez

The GRX series is among the most popular Ibanez models for beginners and fits within the brand's rock-oriented guitar spirit. With the GIO range, Ibanez targets musicians who want an accessible guitar without compromising on manufacturing standards and the brand's quality control demands.

For Whom and Which Styles?

The Ibanez GRX40 is primarily aimed at beginners and intermediate guitarists seeking a versatile electric guitar that's easy to handle. Its ergonomics and electronics make it an excellent choice for rock, pop, punk, and heavier distorted styles, while remaining comfortable with clean tones for rhythm work.

Sound Characteristics

Poplar provides a balanced output, with present lows and solid mids, ideal for maintaining body in rhythm playing. The maple neck enhances attack and definition, while the jatoba fingerboard adds rich mids and clear highs, useful for making notes stand out both in chords and solos. On the amplification side, the passive Infinity pickups (Infinity RS at the neck and middle, Infinity R at the bridge) deliver a precise and tight sound, with good dynamics and appreciable clarity under gain. The combination of 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 5-position selector switch allows quick shifts from warm to sharper tones. The T106 tremolo, with its 6 individual saddles, facilitates fine adjustment of action and intonation string by string.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

For transport, the guitar can be paired with the M300C case or the IGB540-BK gig bag (recommended references). To stay close to the original setup, choose an electric string set 009-042 (gauges .009/.011/.016/.024/.032/.042). The tremolo arm and Allen wrench are included for basic use and adjustments.
