An SR "GIO": The Accessible Ibanez Spirit
For several decades, the SR series has been a benchmark for bassists seeking a modern approach: a smooth neck, refined ergonomics, and effective electronics. The GSR185 fits within the GIO philosophy: offering an affordable bass that retains the Ibanez DNA, with serious manufacturing standards and a typical "SR" playing feel from the very first notes.
For Whom and Which Styles?
Thanks to its 5th string and simple electronics (2 volumes, 1 tone), the GSR185 is perfectly suited for beginner to intermediate bassists who want to explore the low end without complications. It feels at home in rock, metal, pop, funk, or gospel, and provides an excellent foundation for working on left/right hand precision with a fast neck and finely adjustable action.
The Sound
The okoumé body delivers a clear and even response, with a readable attack and a good balance between lows and mids, ideal for a versatile bass. The maple neck enhances definition and "snap" in the attack, while the purpleheart fingerboard adds firmness and precise articulation grain. On the electronics side, the two Dynamix H pickups (humbuckers) provide a solid low register and a comfortable output level, perfect for holding down the bottom end in a band. The 2 volume controls allow quick blending of each pickup, and the tone control rounds off the high end to shift from a punchy sound to a warmer tone.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
This bass comes with original string gauges of .045/.065/.080/.100/.125, so you can stick with a 5-string bass string set in 45-125 gauge to maintain similar feel and tension balance as the factory setup.
